Lauren's One Wish
I am a founding board member and current treasurer for an amazing non-profit organization called Lauren's One Wish. Lauren's One Wish benefits teens and children during their battle with cancer. One aspect of our multi-faceted organization is that we provide "Life Interrupted" grants to those in need; these grants are given directly to the individual and can be used for anything they see fit whether it be an IPad, fuzzy socks, or a 64 pack of crayons. As treasurer, I make it my priority to fundraise and generate wealth for our cause.
From the Mat to the Green
I was doing downward facing dog before I could even walk and hitting golf balls at the range with my grandfather before I entered middle school. Needless to say, yoga and golf have always been major hobbies of mine. But like any hobby that takes time and patience, there weren't enough hours in the day to practice. I drifted away from both of my hobbies for a brief period until realizing my passion for yoga and golf was worth the effort. A famous zen proverb states, "You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes everyday - unless you're too busy. Then you should sit for an hour". I live my life this way; when life gets stressful and busy, I try to attend an extra yoga class that week or play 9 holes to relax and recharge. From the mat to the green, yoga and golf are physical activities to calm the mind.
Current Reads
I am currently reading "Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead" by Sheryl Sandberg and don't want to put it down. Sandberg manages to use humor and wit to attack the age-old topic of gender inequality without belittling the issue. I'm gaining insight and confidence into how to overcome the surmountable odds in the businessworld today. As I am not yet finished with the book I will reserve the majority of my opinions until later, however, one opinion I can safely vocalize now is that "leaning in" may be our only solution for the time being. For more on this topic, please visit my blog.
The other book that I have started reading is Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth". Since I don't enjoy reading fiction, this "self-help" book is my light-reading. Tolle asserts that the only way to find joy in life is to learn to live in the present; easier said than done right?
